Substance Misuse and Alcohol Prevention

A major public health problem among our nation’s youth is alcohol and other drug use. Adults who meet the criteria for having a substance use disorder started using substances in their young adult years. The use of substance abuse amongst youth can lead to various problems at school, within their peer relationships, adds stress to their family, and can cause mental health-related issues.

There are many protective factors that help buffer youth from the use of these substances which include, parent or family engagement, school connectedness and community involvement and support. In effort to enhance protective factors and reverse or reduce risk factors with substance abuse, we ask for your involvement and support in your role within your community as we engage Newburg as the Newburg Strong Coalition!
